In February 2006, the South Bay Literacy Council received a letter from the family of one of our Basic Literacy student’s Craig. The letter says: “…. The interest you have taken in Craig and the relationship he has been able to develop with you have provided a stimulus for him that he has never previously experienced, making him now at 63 the model student he never was. …. We have witnessed an individual who has taken control of many aspects of his life where before he might have been passive or nonparticipating including the taking of a vacation by driving alone to the San Luis Obispo area to visit our sister (where before he would have waited to go up with us for fear of becoming lost and not being able to read highway signs) ……” Click here for a PDF file of the complete letter. |
