There are many other jobs required to keep an organization like the South Bay Literacy Council running smoothly. The following are some sample positions—please call the office at 310-373-7003 if you are interested in these or similar jobs. Office Staff Description: Work in the office for a three-hour shift 10am – 1pm or 1pm – 4pm Mon – Thurs. answering phones, and doing light office work. Skills: Desire to help potential students and tutors connect with our free literacy service; pleasant, helpful, and patient telephone manner; and an organized approach to regular office duties. Computer skills a plus! Fund Raising Committee Member Description: Research and write grant applications to a variety of foundations, corporations and institutions. Skills: Grant-writing experience preferred, but writing experience of any kind, research skills, program-building skills, etc. helpful. Basic Literacy Evaluator Description: We need evaluators! Every basic literacy student is evaluated before they enter tutoring. We will train you by the apprentice method. You may do as many or as few evaluations as you wish. Skills: An evaluator needs to like people Public Relations Volunteer Description: Assist publicity chairperson in any or all aspects of tutor and student recruitment program by helping to coordinate Speakers Bureau, contacting industrial organizations, and developing artistic presentation materials. Skills: People oriented, good telephone personality. Public relations / media knowledge helpful. And of course the Council can always use donations. If you are interested in participating in or following what we do, please become a member. Dues are $25 a year and can be sent to our office (see Home Page). Contributions over and above the dues are especially welcome. |
